I’m a lot of things, but not a couch potato. You won’t find me staring blankly at the TV for hours and hours. But I have to admit, as of late, I’ve become stuck on a few choice shows. I present to you, my countdown to favorite ridiculous reality TV.
5. Operation Repo on truTV: Gawd, there is nothing better than knuckleheads behaving stupidly on camera. The Operation Repo team will stop at nothing to recover property (luxury cars, boats, trucks, anything) from deadbeat owners. The cast of characters is delicious, especially Sonia. Do not get her mad! 9 p.m. Wednesdays.
4. Storage Wars on A&E: This gem follows four professional kooky buyers as they scour repossessed storage units to search for hidden treasures. You won’t believe the crazy, cool things people tuck away in their storage rentals to be unearthed by this crew. Some of the items are junk, but lots more end up being worth some solid dough. 10 p.m. Wednesdays.
3. World’s Dumbest on truTV: Way, way better and slightly raunchier than “America’s Funniest Home Videos.” The show is hosted by the has-been, but totally hilarious cast of Daniel Baldwin, Danny Bonaduce, Todd Bridges and Tonya Harding as they comment on the world’s dumbest videos, including criminals, reckless drivers, partiers and general idiots. 9 p.m. Thursdays.
2. Oddities on Discovery: My son and I are totally into this slightly creepy, completely rad collection of strange and extraordinary artifacts of Manhattan’s Obscura Antiques & Oddities. Each week proprietors Mike, Evan and Ryan peddle their wares to a weird assortment of customers and collectors. If you like electric chairs, two-headed chickens and blood paintings, check it out. 10 p.m. Saturdays.
1. Mob Wives on VH1: You’d better like this show or I’m gonna crack you one! If you are still mourning the end of Tony Soprano and his gang, “Mob Wives” will fill your gangsta void as it follows four women (see main photo) associated with the mafia through various family entanglements. In the words of one of the wives: “It’s time to square up or shut up!” Reality TV poetry at its best. 8 p.m. Sundays.
