Laughter IS the Best Medicine!

I have Sirius XM Radio services in my car and have chosen some “fav” radio stations…one of them is “Laugh USA”. It is clean comedy that can be quite therapeutic depending on the kind of day I have experienced. Much of talk show radio is very intense, filled with hot topics, controversy, and a variety of opinions that cause me to yell at my radio at times…so comic relief is often just what the doc ordered.

I know that folks watching me laugh out loud as I am driving must wonder what is happening to me. Sometimes the frivolity is so enjoyable that tears are running down my face. I especially love the acts that talk about the common travails of family life. Things that would normally test our love and devotion to relatives, is turned into more light-hearted reflections.

An excerpt that I could especially relate to was a gal talking about she and her younger sister sharing a bedroom and the regular sibling rivalry. Her dad was a pastor and was very strict and a disciplinarian. One day, she and her sister were jumping off the bunk bed…she being the older and “wiser” of the two was playing it more conservatively and jumping off the lower bunk while her “dumb” little sister was jumping off the top. Well, you know what’s coming next…her sis injured herself on one of the descents and was screaming bloody murder. The older is thinking…crap, I always get blamed for this little brat’s behavior….so, she stuffed her between the bed and wall when she heard her dad coming down the hallway. She then jumped onto the bed and when he threw open the door and yelled “what’s goin’ on in here?!?”, the older sister said in a calm voice: “why father, I was just sitting here reading the bible”. OMG, I had to laugh so hard, because I could relate to a younger, annoying sister all through the years, and my attempts to create a much different scenario than what had oftenbeen occurring!
