They do say that imitation is the highest form of flattery. It’s especially true when our children model themselves after us. You know, like when they are little and they tenderly rock and feed their dollies and stuffed toys. Certainly not when they , er, chastise or discipline their toys.
Good lord, no, not then!
I don’t know where they get that from!
But then, as our children grow, their imitations of us become even more gratifying…how they speak, the music they grow to love, the books they read and treasure, their sense of style, their occasional bursts of wisdom and common sense…stuff like that.
I look at this amazing child of mine, my #2 girl-child and I have to say that she flatters me in some of those ways and then some. Today, I am loving how she takes her fancy, old school FILM camera everywhere she goes. Just like her mama, she is always ready for that perfect shot.
She flatters me.
She, like her siblings, make me very proud.
She, like her siblings, make me believe that yes, I am a pretty good mom in spite of myself and that Bill is a pretty awesome dad and we have somehow done a good job. How lucky can one mom be?
She flatters me.
Now she better flatter me when she points that camera at me…get my good side, baby-girl.
