Thawing Out And Reviving

In winter, the bears settle in to their chosen den to hibernate.  Everything in their bodies and surrounding environment slows to a pace that they awake only to danger.  Papa bear is dead to the world and mama bear is just awake enough to birth her young and feed them as needed.  Other than that, life in the den has all but stopped.  Perhaps the bears enjoy this little respite from life.  I think it mostly rather sucks, blows, or “fill in your word here.”

Spring is here and I am ready to thaw.  My mind, my body and spirit and senses need to be revived.  It’s a quest of sorts.   I went for a massage the other day and when booking the appointment I simply said, “What’s your longest time slot?  I’m a mess.”  I was thinking something like a 4 hour relay massage but I guess they don’t do that.  I knew I’d made the right decision when otherwise quiet little therapist said, “oh my“ more than a few times about a knot or misplaced something-or-other.

I need to revive.  I need to feel the mud between my toes as I garden – ahh. I will allow the feel of the roots of a new plant to linger through my hands.  I will savor the taste of the food that I eat and the beverage in my mouth.  I will breathe more deeply.  I will set my gaze on something beautiful a little longer.  Every sense needs to be awakened and only then will I feel I have begun my thaw.

I am ready to be revived.  Spring is here and what a perfect excuse to wake up and indulge the senses!

  1. Man, I hear ya. Leaving the house today, it was so sunny and beautiful I was READY for Spring. And then clouds came in… and *sigh* COME ON, already!
