Getting a Driver’s License…

…is very difficult if you can’t see!

Years ago, I had taken my son to the local DMV to take his written and driving test as he had just turned 16. I was a bit concerned, because the 6 months previous, he had been struggling with his driving skills.

Unbeknownst to us, he had a vision problem…let me explain. He had no issue getting his permit and as you know, an adult driver needs to accompany a “permitee” and so my husband and I were the privileged few. Often, our son would not recognize an off ramp notification and would frequently run over the lane dividers…instead of us making the logical conclusion that he had a vision problem, we, as frustrated parents, attributed it to a teenager not paying enough attention to a very serious task.

Well, the day I took him into the DMV for his testing, he did “OK” until it came time for the eye chart test…he failed miserably and I was stunned! We had no idea! We then discovered that he had been sitting in the front of all his classes at school in an attempt to compensate for poor visability…man, did we feel awful!

I immediately arranged for an eye exam, filled the glass prescription, and whoa…what a difference.

I had to laugh when I read an article today about a gal who in less than 12 months, has hit a deer 5 times!…coming home from work, going to a babysitting job, taking a friend home from sports practice, driving to church, and driving home from an errand…I couldn’t help but think…that poor girl needs a pair of glasses!

  1. I’m going to tell my husband that the reason I hit all those curbs isn’t because I’m a horrible driver, it’s because I just need some glasses! :)
