I read a story about a woman who was inadvertently locked in a post office in Michigan due to a malfunctioning door. She was there in the post office box area to pick up some mail and then couldn’t get out. She had no form of communication and eventually someone else saw her and summoned 911. They were able to free her and she was understanding abut the “fluke”.
This makes me think of a situation years ago where I was stuck on a ski lift for about 6 hours….yikes!…it was the last run of the day for me and I told my husband and brother-in-law to just go ahead as I wanted to take my time getting down the slopes and they were in a “race” mode.
For those of you who are skiers, you know how common it is for lifts to stop and start-sometimes quite frequently and at times, for what seems like “forever”. Well, I assumed this was one of those situations. After about 30″, I then wondered what the heck was going on. After one hour, ski patrol finally notified us that there were issues with a main gear box and ultimately we had to be “rescued” from the lift as we were too high up to jump off. It was quite an ordeal, and some folks even suffered frost bite and hypothermia. I was fine however and just exhausted.
No cell phones in those days and the young gal on the lift with me had to be calmed frequently as she was easily panicked.
For all our troubles, they offered free hot chocolate and a complimentary half-day lift pass, not exactly the most generous ( a full day would have been preferable), but it was something of a service recovery attempt.
Oh well, hope you do not have such untoward adventures!
